Every few years I have pretty consistent heartburn. Taking heartburn medications makes it worse plus just makes me feel bloated and unable to fully digest food. Over the years I’ve learned that my heartburn is actually caused by my stomach not having enough acid. Now when that happens I take 3-5 of these with each meal... it helps my body regulate the correct amount of acid. After a week or so of taking these I can fully stop and have zero heartburn. I know it sounds counterproductive to add acid for heartburn, but there is lots of research out there that indicates in a lot of people heartburn is caused by low stomach acid. Not the case for everyone, but worth a try if antacids aren’t working. Plus, who wants to take medicine like that forever.I have had Barrett's Esophagus for a while, evidently. This is a condition as a result of reflux and can lead to espophageal cancer. I rarely had heartburn. For many years, doctors thought I had asthma since I cough so much, especially at night. Than it was that I have sinus problems. Finally, after a medical test, I have reflux and Barrett's. I was put on PPI's and took them for a few years. It was getting worse. I then ordered these capsules. I take them after I eat. No more coughing, sleeping through the night. I don't wake up with headaches in the morning which were caused by poor sleep, iI was having such severe heartburn I thought it was something else! I was researching it and found it probably wasn't an overabundance of acid, it was likely a shortage. These have helped but it's an ongoing issue, and I probably need to take them more than once a day. Vinegar still helps for immediate need, though!Twinlab is a solid provider of supplements and I have never had enough stomach acid. I appreciate the glass bottle and dark glass packing as well as I carry it with me and sometimes gets exposed to less than ideal temps. And still works.Best value / effectiveness for Betaine HCL. Also has Pepsin to aid in digestion. Contrary to the popular belief in the medical profession, not all heartburn problems are related to excess stomach acid. Mine and many others has been solved by adding supplemental stomach acid (with Pepsin). Acid blockers will kill you while this will make the low acid levels in your stomach work for you in digesting your food properly and giving yoour body the nutrients it needs.Betaine really helped me with my extreme gassiness and awful heartburn. I found that taking one pill was enough to not have that terrible pain.I take 2 with my Swanson's brewers yeast in cereal, hoping that all that b.y. goodness will be used by my body. Also, occasionaly I overeat, and so I take 2 then.I think these are great for strength, price and quantity and are to be taken at the start of a high protein meal only otherwise you're wasting your money. It would be better to take a wide spectrum digestive enzyme instead.I take 3 per day with great digestive effect!Great product
